Join us for a conversation with renowned photographer Edward Burtynsky and acclaimed filmmakers Jennifer Baichwal and Nick de Pencier. They will be discussing their latest collaborative project—Anthropocene -- with AGO curator of photography, Sophie Hackett.
The term Anthropocene was coined in 2000 to describe the massive and irreversible effects that humans have had on the planet (from anthro, for “human,” and cene, for “recent”). The collective’s Anthropocene Project is a multidisciplinary investigation including an exhibition comprised of video, virtual reality and large-scale photographs; a feature documentary film which marks the third in a trilogy following Manufactured Landscapes and Watermark; a fine art book published by Steidl; and an educational website.
Edward Burtynsky is one of Canada’s most respected and decorated photographers. Focused on global industrial landscapes, his images are featured in the collections of over sixty major museums around the world.
Jennifer Baichwal and Nick de Pencier have been making award-winning and internationally celebrated documentaries for over twenty years.
