BURTYNSKY: Extraction/Abstraction

  • Seoul Museum of History (map)

Seoul Museum of History
Seoul, South Korea

Seoul Museum of History—renowned for charting the city’s evolution from its origins to the present—will host the first large-scale exhibition of Edward Burtynsky's works in Seoul. Bringing together local memory and global scale, BURTYNSKY: Extraction/Abstraction invites visitors to reflect on humanity’s profound impact on the planet and the resilience of cities.

Over the past decade, the museum has deepened its engagement with environmental challenges and crisis narratives through special programs such as the special exhibition Unprecedented Flood and the 11th European Film Festival (themed Stories for Challenging Times). This exhibition builds on this commitment, presenting four decades of Burtynsky’s practice that vividly documents industrial landscapes, resource extraction, and the intricate systems that sustain—and strain—modern life.
